Used to be good but no longer works. Wont open. IOS 10 problem?

Since the last update, the only way Ive been able to see the Slate app (for iPad) updated is to uninstall and reinstall the app. Thats lame.

In an news app ecosystem thats filled with useless gimmicks and clutter, this app offers its content (which is great) with a smooth and *simple* interface. All equals a great UI

I enjoy Slate on my home computer. The app however is awful. I really wish someone would fix it. It often fails to open and when it does it shuts down unexpectedly. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling but the same results. Very dissatisfied.

Ive worked in digital my whole career, so I really appreciate how hard a redesign is. This one missed the mark in a big way. Pictures are bigger, text is more customizable, but the overall interface is slower, buggier, and less satisfying. I used to enjoy refreshing the app. Now it is hard to tell if anything is going on. Please do a side by side comparison of the old and new app and in version 5.1 return some of the elements that made Slate one of the most addictive news apps around. Also the new app hangs for a LONG time on first load. If I werent such a dedicated fan I would have deleted the app without a second thought. Good luck.

I used to like this app. It used to be pretty stable. If you havent updated, dont! It isnt just that its much harder to navigate - which would be bad enough. The screen keeps going entirely blank with no warning. If you like Slate, use your browser to go to Slate.com. Im deleting the app today.

So lets say you open the app a few times a day. Why would someone want to see "Top Stories" each time? Makes no sense. You want to see the most recent. Either bring back the old design or make it an option.

Okay, I saw your developer had made another go of this app, so I downloaded it in the hope that it would at least launch. While it did launch, and while the screen immediately went right to the "Recent" setting, what came up was a black screen beneath the menu bar. Nothing else. No articles, no nothing, even if I selected other pages from the menu. Nada. Its loading content, but cant display it. Im on an iPhone 5s, so Im not certain if anything older than an iPhone 6 will run it, even with the current OS 10.1.1. Youre getting closer though - I can actually get it to load instead of spinning for half-an-hour. However, getting to read articles is still out of reach.

Youd get more functionality if you just save the mobile site to your home page. In the app, videos dont play, quizzes and other interactives dont work, etc…

I really enjoy reading stories on the Slate app. Its a different experience than the website because you see fewer stories to chose between. I find it very readable. Glad to have it.

Slate is great, I love the articles and the writers, its my one must read daily. But this app is the worst. Im in the middle of reading an article and I get an email. I click to read and reply to the email, then go back to Slate. The app will almost always refresh itself and bring me back to the top of the home screen! I then have to scroll all the way back down to find the article I was reading and then scroll down to find where I left off. Slate, please keep readers at the exact spot where they left off!!! Its the most annoying thing and honestly makes me want to quit using the app altogether. Also, the search function is pretty garbage. I rarely can find an article Ive read previously using key words. Please improve that as well. A great product like yours needs an equally great app. Please improve and update!!

Slate is one of my major sources of information and judgement.

I use the app for the podcasts.

The functionality of this app gets worse with every update. The content updates randomly. The search function does work. Then it does. Then it doesnt. Im on the verge of pressing delete.

Enjoy this app and its relevance. Must have if you like Slate web.

Its pretty great now. I am glad that when you connect it downloads the articles so I can read them on the airplane.

App is much more streamlined. Its easy to share articles on Facebook, articles are easy to read, and app is far more stable than previous iterations.
